Core Features & Workflow
Most plasmid isolation kits operate on a standard alkaline lysis and neutralization mechanism, followed by silica-membrane or magnetic bead separation.
- Bind-Wash-Elute: Bacterial cells are lysed, proteins/genomic DNA are precipitated, and the plasmid-containing lysate is passed through a column or mixed with magnetic beads. The plasmid selectively binds, is washed to remove salts/impurities, and is then eluted.
- Speed & Convenience: Eliminates the need for tedious alcohol precipitations. Entire protocols take as little as 15–30 minutes.
- Yield & Format: Available in multiple scales (Miniprep, Midiprep, Maxiprep, Gigaprep) to isolate from small, medium, or large bacterial culture volumes
